FUNDING AGREED FOR NEW PRISON ARTS PROJECT!
We are excited to announce that the Patricia Fay Memorial Fund (PFMF) has granted £1,000 in its April round, for a murals project at HMP Stocken, a Category C men's prison in Rutland.
The project is named “New Beginnings” and will fund a Nottingham-based street artist Anna Wheelhouse, to spend 4 days in the prison running workshops to decide the design of the mural and teaching painting to the inmates taking part. It is not yet decided whether the mural will be housed on an external or on an internal wall such as the “Departure Lounge” of the prison. Preparatory paintings for the project will be exhibited in galleries in Stamford and Grantham, to benefit those prisoners taking part.
The societies involved in this inspiring project are Stamford (Judith Piggott, Arts Volunteering), Oakham (Jill Harris, who has longterm involvement with this prison, including the “Hope Project “), and Grantham (Glenda Rousseau, Publicity Officer).
The timetable is not yet set, but will start in the next months. Watch this space!
